Types of Superhero Fans pt. I
I’ve posted about my tolerance for all types of superhero fans. I’ve also had experience with “superhero fans” that irked me. How does that work? Well, it comes down to whether they’re arrogant or pleasant and has very little to do with their passion for superheroes.
Anyways, I got to thinking about all the different “superhero fans” that I’ve encountered. Now, NONE of these types are better than the other. They’re all necessary in my eyes. That being said, the healthiest type of superhero fans, in my opinion, have a little bit of each type in them (you can be a bunch of these, I’m just going into each extreme).
The Superhero Movie Fan: I’m confident that this is the most common type of superhero fan. These people often only know the “movie” version of superheroes, and are filled with half-truths and false information. They take the actor/writer’s re-imagination of each hero as a literal translation of what they really are like. I’ve heard people call Deadpool a “melting pot” of superpowers and I’ve heard that Iron Man is hilarious. These are examples of superhero movie fans. Oh! And they’re quick to hate superheroes that have been poorly portrayed in movies…such as Green Lantern.

Wikipedia Whores: Despite the name I chose to call these type of fans, I respect these people as much as any other fan. They are well-informed of every power/ability, team affiliations, biographies, etc. of every mainstream superhero, and in rare cases have even researched obscure heroes. That being said, they lack knowledge of how these powers/abilities are applied in actual situations or how they interact with other heroes. They lack understanding of each hero’s thought processes and behavioral patterns.Superhero T.V. Show Fans: Love these guys. Super easy to talk “superheroes” with. They know a f#@k ton about superheroes due to the fact that these shows are often pretty accurate. They are exposed to superhero power usage, personality traits, and relationships. They are essentially “watching” comic books and that’s just fine.

Toy Collectors: You know those neat looking superhero action figures or bobble heads you find in Toys R Us? These guys cream their pants over them. They have a general-to-vast understanding of superheroes, but an even greater passion for them and express it through toy collecting. NEVER have I met one of these guys that I haven’t envied. They have the coolest f#%king rooms, although these rooms excel at warding away females.Superhero Video Game Fans: They know about everything that a Wikipedia Whore knows about superheroes, and have loosely applied this knowledge by mindlessly beating CPUs to a pulp with overpowered heroes. These games usually have pretty lame plots, so these fans are deprived of a lot of the same insight that Wiki-Whores are deprived of.
I’ll release part. II in an hour or 30mins depending on w.e…I understand that I’m generalizing a lot, pt. III will show you the most common combinations of these types. Tell me if you fall into any of these, theres a few types left so it’s okay if you don’t. Thanks for reading guys.
Oh! And I understand that I have a decent amount of female-superhero-fan followers and hope that you take 0 offense from me using the word “guys” a lot to describe these types.
