Getting My Associate Degree- The first school I ever went to was Brigham Young University in Idaho. I attended for two semesters, met awesome people, had great experiences, and found new passions. Then I transferred to Rockland Community College because BYU is a religious school and I was tired of pretending to believe in the religion they wanted me to practice every day. Also, the girl I loved was living across the nation in New York so it wasn’t the hardest decision. A few semesters later and here I am with 2 classes left before I get the degree I worked hard for and paid for in full. I’m still with that girl too, so it’s a win-win.
Moving to Queens and Transferring to Queens College- I chose QC because it’s affordable and because my cousins and my older brother live in the area. The hardest part about Idaho was how far my family was. I’m gonna be a train ride away from home so I get to see my family and lady whenever I want.
Dorming in QC costs $5,500 a semester. That’s $11,000 without the actual schooling included. So I decided I’m going to live with my cousins in the projects. I’ll end up paying them $300 a semester but I’ll be sacrificing comfort and privacy. The apartment they have is a one-bedroom and it’ll be housing 4 adults and 2 children. It’s also in a scary neighborhood. But you know what, I’m still excited as fuck to live with them. I like to see myself as simple in the fact that I don’t need a lot of things. I’d like to think that I’d be fine with my bed, my tablet, and my Ipod. I can rock with it. Plus if I need privacy or a quiet place to do homework I can just take the bus to the school and study or reflect there. I have a friend that dorms there and he’s told me I can crash whenever.
Building My Own Computer- My best friend Pat made his own computer and dropped a little over a grand doing so. It’s a beast now. I asked him how much I would need to drop for something a little less crazy. He told me $700 so I kinda dropped the idea. Then my cousin Jake made his own computer with $550 and it runs everything fine. So I’ve decided I’ll be making a computer when I move and I’m very excited about it.
There’s a fine line between a passion and an addiction. Writing, comic books, and music are some things I’m passionate about. Then there’s video games. I’ve danced around addiction with video games, I’m sure a lot of people have. I was a closet nerd all of middle school and high school. I played WoW for like 8 hours a day when I was like 13 up to when I was 17. I’ve dabbled in Rift, GW2, SWTOR, HoN, DCU, Star Craft I & II, Warcraft II & III etc. Now I’m really into Dota II. I figure I might as well have a good, clean computer to feed my addiction instead of a shitty one right?…*sigh*
Different Environment- I was a whole different creature in Idaho. I took naps on the regular and never really slept much. I wrote a lot. I went to the gym 4-5 times a week. I created my Tumblr in Idaho and gained over 2 thousand followers and was even featured on the Tumblr radar. All because I was active and posted like 10 times a day. All original posts, most of them text posts regarding superheroes and such. I wonder what the Steven in Queens will be like. I hope he’s as productive as Steven in Idaho.
3 Year Anniversary- A little over 3 months from now, I will have been with my girlfriend for 3 years. She is amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. I’ll miss her a bunch in Queens. She won’t think I will, since I’ll be busy and stuff, but she’s always on my mind.
So excite. None of you will bother reading this and that’s fine lul.
